Charge AI crawlers. Take the money out in euros.

AI crawlers now hit many sites harder than human readers do, and the tooling to charge them finally exists. But that tooling pays you in stablecoin, straight to a wallet. AsterPay closes the last mile: crawl revenue becomes euros in your IBAN via SEPA Instant, in under 10 seconds, at 0.5% + €0.10.

The part the announcements skip

Charging a crawler and getting paid are two different problems. The first one is close to solved. The second one is not.

“Settlement happens peer-to-peer, so any funds that a buyer sends to a seller are directly deposited to the seller's wallet.”

Cloudflare, announcing the Monetization Gateway, 1 July 2026

Collection is handled

Cloudflare's Monetization Gateway charges for any resource over x402, and Pay Per Crawl returns HTTP 402 with a price header. Both are early access, not yet generally available.

Payout is not

The gateway deposits stablecoin into your wallet. Nobody converts it, nobody reconciles it, and nobody hands your accountant a euro figure with a reference.

That is the gap we fill

AsterPay is the off-ramp underneath. Stablecoin in, euros out to a European bank account, with a signed receipt per settlement.

How the money moves

You keep whichever paywall you prefer at the edge. AsterPay only takes over once the crawler has paid.

01

Charge for the crawl

Use Cloudflare's gateway if you have access, or return HTTP 402 yourself and point it at AsterPay. Verification and on-chain settlement are free, with no API key.

02

Revenue arrives as USDC

Crawler and agent payments land as USDC on Base, Ethereum or Polygon. Every payer is sanctions-screened and trust-scored before anything settles.

03

AsterPay pays out in EUR

Euros reach your IBAN over SEPA Instant in under 10 seconds, 24/7, through licensed European partners. 0.5% + €0.10 per payout.

Why European publishers need this specifically

Your books are in euros

A wallet balance is not bookable revenue. Each settlement arrives with a EUR amount, a SEPA reference and a signed receipt, so crawl income reconciles like any other invoice.

Non-custodial and MiCA-aligned

Funds route through licensed European payment partners under MiCA, EMD and PSD2, not through AsterPay's balance sheet. AsterPay is the technical and trust layer.

You keep your edge stack

This is not a CDN migration or a plugin. Whatever returns the 402 stays where it is; AsterPay attaches at settlement, so switching paywalls later costs you nothing.

You learn who is actually paying

Every payer is scored 0-100 on wallet history, sanctions and ERC-8004 identity, so you can see which AI operators pay and which ones only take.

Publisher FAQ

Can I charge AI crawlers for access today?

Partly. Cloudflare's Pay Per Crawl returns HTTP 402 with a crawler-price header and is in private beta, with Cloudflare acting as merchant of record. Cloudflare's Monetization Gateway, announced 1 July 2026, charges for any resource over the x402 protocol and is in waitlist-only early access. You can also run your own HTTP 402 paywall today without waiting for either, using an x402 facilitator such as AsterPay.

Does Cloudflare pay me in euros?

Not with the Monetization Gateway. Cloudflare's own description states that settlement happens peer-to-peer, so funds a buyer sends are deposited directly to the seller's wallet. You end up holding stablecoin, not euros in a bank account. AsterPay covers that last mile.

What if my site is not behind Cloudflare?

Then you return HTTP 402 yourself and point it at AsterPay. Verification and on-chain settlement are free, with no API key and no monthly fee. Every 402 response carries both x402 and MPP headers, so a crawler or agent can pay with whichever SDK it already has.

What does AsterPay cost a publisher?

Payment verification and on-chain settlement are free. AsterPay charges only when euros reach your bank: 0.5% + €0.10 per settled payout on the EU rail. No subscription, no token, no minimum volume.

Is AsterPay custodial?

No. AsterPay operates a non-custodial architecture; funds route through licensed European payment partners (EMI/CASP under MiCA, EMD and PSD2), not through AsterPay's balance sheet. Because payouts land in a verified bank account, there is a KYB step before your first settlement, which is what the licensed partner requires.

Which chains and stablecoins can I settle from?

EUR settlement runs from USDC on Base, Ethereum and Polygon. Payments themselves can also be accepted on Arbitrum and Optimism. EUR via SEPA Instant is live today in under 10 seconds; GBP via Faster Payments and USD via ACH are on the roadmap.

Is blocking crawlers not simpler than charging them?

Blocking is simpler and sometimes correct. Charging is worth it when the crawl has real value to the operator, because a paid crawler is one you can identify, rate-limit and invoice instead of one you play cat and mouse with. AsterPay is only useful once you have decided to charge.
